Hyattsville Begins Operation of First Fully-Electric Trash Truck in Maryland
This is a fully electric, zero emissions refuse truck that is scheduled for use this month. It is the first of its kind in MD. And, Hyattsville is the first city in the nation to have this model Build Your Dreams (BYD) garbage truck, which is manufactured in China.
The article states the following benefits of this truck:
- More compact to better maneuver on urban streets;
- Can work an entire shift without recharging;
- Savings in fuel purchases and vehicle maintenance;
- Quieter and smoother riding vehicle; and
- Reduction in emissions in the environment and inhaled by workers.
Yay for Hyattsville! I’m looking forward to one of these trucks coming to Upper Marlboro one of these days!
