AirBnB- Not Always A Breath of Fresh Air! Ugh!

Booking your vacay lodging via AirBnB is for risk takers and adrenaline junkies. Why? Because you won’t know exactly what you’re getting until you get there. What a rush! 🙄😵‍💫

Will your rental be as described online or not? You just have to wait and see!

And you have to pay close attention to the language that describes the amenities for the booking. For example, whether the location gives you a private versus a shared entrance, has an in-unit washer/dryer, or allows pets (not just service animals), requires that you read the details very closely.

Also, if there is an issue, you have to send the “host” of the rental a message or call AIRBnB customer service. The phone number for the “host” is not provided.

My husband and I have booked 3 different rentals from AirBNB in the last 30 days. One was in Richmond, VA and the other two were in Atlanta, GA.

At the Richmond location, the rental was described as having a private entrance. However, there was only a flimsy room divider that separated my husband and I from the homeowner. The host smoked A LOT of weed and had a large dog roaming the house that should’ve been in a cage.

At the first Atlanta location, the host accepted our request to book- where we explicitly stated that we were bringing a pet. She later said that we could not bring a pet. After some back and forth and a call to AirBnB, we got our money back.

The second Atlanta location was labeled as a “new listing”, which should’ve been a red flag to us. Lol! To make a long story short, the place was tidy but filthy at the same time. There were roaches in the kitchen, nose-bleed pillows, dirty linens and floors, trash and laundry from prior tenants, etc. We took plenty of pics and confronted the host. He claimed that he had professional cleaners, said “some people shouldn’t book AirBnB”, and that he was going to sue AirBnB for a million dollars due to our complaints and because we got our money back. Needless to say, we left this AirBnB and went to a nearby hotel. This place was so bad, that AirBnB gave us a $275 credit for a future stay- which we are leery of using due to all of our issues. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Here are some pics from the filthy Atlanta booking:

I’m sure there are a lot of success stories out there for AirBnB stays. Many of us like to have a “home away from home” vibe when we travel. Especially when traveling with kids or pets. But good grief! People should not invite paying customers to their home under these conditions!
